David was born in Denver, Colorado July 19th, 1960 and raised in Oklahoma City. He was inspired to play the saxophone at the early age of twelve, by his father. David and his Dad played a few Blues gigs together, and after jamming with his Dad on stage, David was hooked for life. In 1978, after graduating from Star Spencer High school in Oklahoma City, he joined the Marine Corps Band.
In 1980 David joined The Joker's Wild, a ten-piece Top 40/R&B band performing around Oklahoma. During the three year stint with this band, David opened shows for Frankie Beverly and Maze, The Ohio Players, and Kool & the Gang.
In 1984, David founded the Funk/Dance band Prelude, and in 1985 moved the act to Dallas. Under his leadership, this group played Dallas and Ft. Worth's hottest clubs, performed all over the United States, and even traveled to Greenland to perform for the U.S. troops stationed there. Prelude also performed in Ft. Worth for "Hands Across America" and at the "Dallas Montage Festival".
"David Carr has the sizzle and groovin' moves that audiences respond to enthusiastically."
THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS
David worked with Steven Jay Hoey and laid down sax tracks for the score of the 1987 independent film, Positive I.D. directed by Andy Anderson. The movie, an intense drama about assault and revenge, starred Stephanie Rascoe, John Davies, Lauren Lane, and Steve Fromholz. This film was released in 2000 on Anchor Bay DVD, but is now out of print. Positive I.D. is a low budget indie film from a time when indie films were not as common as they are today, and definitely worth watching if you have the opportunity.
David joined forces with the Jeannette Brantley Band in 1989 and contributed (wrote and arranged) much of the original contemporary jazz material the band performed. During this same period David co-wrote the song, Child's Play for a cable television children's show.
David has performed as a solo contributing artist on numerous projects, including with Barbara Mason on her album Lady Avis. He was awarded a Cultural Affairs Grant through the Artist Touring Program to perform three live concerts for the City of Dallas in 1991. In June of that year, David performed in the "Zelt Music Festival" in Freidburg, Germany. While there, he performed with Al Dimeola, Spencer Davis, Herbie Mann, Paul Horn, Chris Farlow, Stafford James, Janet and Ed Kaiser and Peter Udeax.
Over the years, David has also shared the stage with such contemporary jazz artists as Jonathan Butler, Joe McBride, Tom Scott, Fattburger, and Warren Hill, at the Dallas "Festival of Arts & Jazz".
In mid January of 1992, a champagne kickoff party officially launched David's solo career, and ICTN cable network ran a feature story on David's solo debut. Enthusiasm quickly spread to the music city capital of Texas... Austin, where David was asked to perform on the "UNICEF" Telethon. Other Austin venues followed and many of David's performances were televised. Numerous television and radio gigs soon followed, including "Sunday Night Showtime", a Dallas Cowboy's sports talk and entertainment show that aired weekly. During the show's two seasons, David performed five times, sharing the show's "Special Guest" slot with such national sports figures as Magic Johnson and Troy Aikman.
In 1997, Dallas' News Anchorwoman for KXAS-TV, Angela Cain, host of the show "TALK STREET", invited David to appear for a live interview and performance. David appeared on Dallas' FOX-4 morning show with his band in November, 1998.
By 1994, David was drawing both jazz and blues audiences to his high energy performances. He headlined for the Children's Advocacy Center "Artfest" (sponsored by the 500, INC. and Dallas' Jazz station OASIS 107.5) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association's "An Evening of Jazz".
"Carr's overall sound is sophisticated and refined but never overwhelming - especially to beginner jazz listeners."
THE PARIS NEWS
Paris, Texas
In May of 1995, after almost a full year of frustrating delays, David achieved his first major musical goal by releasing his first CD, sounds of innosense. The album is dedicated to his daughters, and his Dad. This project was written, arranged, produced and recorded by David in his digital home studio and mastered by Bernie Grundman in Hollywood, California.
In the summer of 1995, the OASIS 107.5 Smooth Jazz radio station and the City of Farmer's Branch hosted a free concert for their fans and brought to the stage contemporary jazz greats, Warren Hill, Tom Scott and Fattburger, slotting David and his band as the opening act for this spectacular "LAZER & JAZZ EXTRAVAGANZA" on July 4th. David has also shared the stage in Dallas with the well known contemporary artist, Jonathan Butler.
David plays alto, tenor, and soprano saxophones, the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) as well as keyboards, a bit of drums if pressed, and sings. David loves working in the studio, but is happiest sharing his passions through his music live on stage in front of a dancing crowd.
Since the age of twelve when David made the decision to pursue a musical career, David's commitment to a "drug free" life has given him focus and determination in his career. This commitment has earned him credibility, respect and recognition from his peers and his fans. In consideration of these attributes, David's participation in outreach programs benefiting the children and young adults is not only an inspiration for many, but also a rewarding experience.
David is always reed-deep in the studio recording tracks for upcoming projects. He writes almost non-stop for himself and clients. His greatest passions are for his own music, but David's talents allow him to write jingles, movie scores, or whatever he is called to write. Some may view David as a workaholic, but music is his life; the essence of his soul.
"Listeners can expect 'IN TOO DEEP'... to invade, nurture and replenish the soul as only a David Carr, Jr. composition can."

As of December 2006, David has released 5 CD projects. sounds of innosense (mentioned previously) was released in 1995. New Year's Eve in 1997, David released his second CD in a major jazz event at the Sheraton Hotel Dallas, Brookhollow. The CD was a limited edition version of the CD in too deep which featured alternate mixes of songs that would not be on the final version of the in too deep double CD slated for release the following year. Each of the 500 limited edition in too deep CDs was numbered and signed by David. The limited edition in too deep also featured the track, Ain't Nothin But A Party, not available at all on the final double CD release. The limited edition in too deep CD has long been sold out, but the song, Ain't Nothin But A Party is now available for FREE (MP3) download.

The in too deep double CD was not released in 1998 as planned, and due to various setbacks beyond David's control, the CD was not released until March 19th, 2003… more on that later. In the interim, David released a re-mastered CD single of his 1993 cassette single, On Top of the One which included two songs, With an Angel, and On Top of the One. Also in 2001, David released a nine track seasonal CD entitled, Holiday of Jazz. The Holiday of Jazz CD featured many songs close to David's heart, a few that fans had been requesting from David for years, and one original composition by David, Breath of God. David produced and mastered both of these titles in his studio, and each is available on CD-R from the Music Store page.
At 7:00 p.m. on the evening of March 19th, 2003 the festivities began for the concert and release party of the David Carr, Jr. double CD, in too deep. The show and party were at Dallas Market Hall, the facility secured for the evening, staged and decorated by American Trade Shows, Inc. Jazz harpist Carlos Guedes opened the show for David. In spite of the rain, and the U.S. deploying troops to Iraq that very day, the show was a great success. Click on the links below for streaming samples of four of the songs from the in too deep CD.
